Gorgeous story. Definitely would be great for Y8 or 9.
Epic play that gave me lots of feels and really made me think. Definitely recommend for Year 11 or 12.
Great crime book with lots of twists. Likeable narrator and realistic story.
I didn't think I'd like a book from the perspective of a magpie, but I definitely did! It was so well-told and engaging. 100% recommend.
Very slow burn, but intense. The whole novel happens over dinner between two couples where the husbands are brothers, with flashbacks. The narrator is hard to pin down; seems reasonable and reliable, but as the story progresses he becomes unnerving and suspect.
Shocking book! Great and clenching read. Definitely recommend.
Awesome crime book, perfect for summer and I’ve learned so much about te ao Māori.
Amazing book that explores what it means to be authentic, what it means to stand up for yourself, and the frustration that a lot of these battles are *still* being fought. Definitely pick it up.
A father goes missing and his son with Angelman syndrome and ASD is the prime suspect. Didn't love this story; went on a bit too long.
Fascinating story about a woman who is obsessed with her husband. We follow her for a week as she makes decisions and wonders whether her husband is leaving her/cheating/still loves her. While is seems a bit one-note, it's quite a thrilling read.
Intense story about three school girls who murder a classmate. There are multiple perspectives in the novel, so you get everyone's motive and mindset. Fascinating, but harrowing.
Interesting read about a 35-year-old who is now single and how he deals with that. The ending took me on a journey!
Philosophical book about a Mormon man who is sent to hell for choosing the wrong god. This book has lots of deep thoughts. Would definitely recommend!
Engaging and heartwarming book about a high school American football player who gets knocked into other dimensions. Great book to read with Year 10s or 11s to help build empathy and understanding for others.
Hockey/figure skating romance. Very spicy, so be ye warned!
A short story advent calendar where each day there is a new short story to read; such a treat!
An entertaining book where octogenarians meet every Thursday to solve a cold case, only to have a real case fall into their laps. Fun read with some mature content.
A lighthearted romantasy. Some great representation, as the main characters are neurodiverse. Fun summer book (go away, rain!) A few spicy scenes, so be aware if recommending to others.
Awesome satire about Te Tiriti and what it means to be a public servant as Māori. Would be a great Y12 or 13 text!
Contemporary retelling of Austen's Emma, set in NYC. Fun summer read with a bit of spice.
New adult fantasy world that my Year 11s, 12s and 13s loved, so obviously I had to read it. Great book to get an older student into reading. Main character has chronic pain, and another prominent character is deaf, so really interesting representation in the book. FYI: There is explicit sex in the book, so be aware when recommending this book.
