Early book in the Tower and the Hive series. Nice to see the early development of the Talents.
Nice short stories in the Bridgerton vein.
Bridgerton Prequel. and interesting back story.
Georgian romp. Nice read!
Regency romp - fun!
First of the Bridgertons, and a good read. Even better than the series, though I do like what they did with that!
A good read!
Very funny!
Another post regency romp! Great fun

Been reading this with the moko - always fun. It was this that pulled me in to the Harry Potter world - with characters established, there was more detail, I felt, than there was in the first book.
Triple set of the Crystal Singer series. Now I've finished my Wilde/Chase, I'll look for what next - this filled a gap. You can definitely see some inner contradictions as you read this - it needed some better proofreading/editing, but hey ho. I've always liked Anne McCaffrey!
And finally, the last in the series. From the title, I was expecting more non-humans, but no. A good conclusion and I liked the way it wrapped up!
Atlantean artifacts, yes, but back down to "normal" if such can be said. A shorter book, as though Andy McD couldn't think of more plot. Macy is definitely growing up! Mayan/Incan history, and good fun. Oh, and we've now got to the point in the series where I hadn't read this one before!
Ok, we're totally in fantasy realms now. Non-humans (but not aliens). A good romp across the world and the baddies and goodies are quite intertwined, and change sides. I did enjoy this, very silly though the plot is!
We're out of the realm of unlikely into sheer "WHAT"!!! Still, a good read and lots and lots and LOTS of action. I really liked the scene in Venice, good old Eddie. Macy is a small star! Nina has to do some rapid disappearing of her own, and this might give her more insight, but does it? A very unlikely ending, but hey ho! At least the billionaire, whilst odd, is not the total megalomaniac he seems at first, and a good piece of misdirection as to the real villain.!
Oh dear, Nina gets above herself, and, predictably, it all turns to custard. Could see that one coming. OK, it's still a good page turner, but very very formulaic. Is it just me, or is Eddie really getting to be the star?? Let's see what happens in the next one.
Atlantis is involved again! Nina actually has a family member alive (well, apart from Eddie and the baby!) but there are complications. Is there a billionaire anywhere who is not a megalomaniac with the intent of saving the world from itself by building a new world order? Well, apparently not! Action a plenty, but a but too formulaic for me - I found the family dynamics more interesting! Like others i sometimes wonder why these books have not been turned into movies, but there is, perhaps just TOO much adventure and a LOT of CGI would be needed!! It rollicks to the end!
Even when Nina is determined NOT to go adventuring - she is kidnapped and forced to! Eddie is excellent in this one, and even though Nina does get sucked in to the game, she is believable. Plot quite far-fetched as in how does all that gas fit into the statue, but again, a suspension of disbelief (I mean, reality? Who needs it when there's a good plot!!?) gets us through. The discovery of a HUGE HUGE "wonder"is a stunning idea, and for once it does not get destroyed! Nice vignette at the end with the baby, and a well deserved name choice!
A short story plugging a gap. Well written, and follows on well from Kingdom of Darkness. We see Nina's insecurity and anguish after the death of her friend, and it was a good short read.
Better after the last 2 books. Nazi's are back, with a twist - surely it's too long after the War? A recurring character is killed, suddenly, and it's a real shock! Helps Nina's development. But surely Nina is dying? Well... the usual implausibility, but well done, this time, after the Viking poison, which was NOT, in my opinion. I loved the ending!
The idea is good, and again, a different mythology to explore, and I did like the back and forward from Vietnam to present day, but I just can't bring myself to take the "eitr" poison seriously. I mean how it can only surface in two specific places? I can't help but feel if you block the exits it will surface somewhere else... Anyway, suspending disbelief on that issue, the rest is the usual mix of explosions etc and a good read. Nina is infected and it all looks a bit bleak in the end - but we've got used to the cliff-hangers!! Alas, if I was an archeological wonder and Nina and Eddie came near me I'd be worried - most of them don't seem to survive the encounter!!
I'm on a roll. And we're off! Eddie gets rehabilitated/gets off the hook. And despite its UK Title, they don't spend a lot of time at Atlantis! Thought Matt the Submarine expert was a goner, but no! The statues sub-plot was resolved, but I'm not happy. Magic stones, and only Nina can do it - there must be MILLIONS of people? A little far fetched, but still a good read...
Plot twist after plot twist. Back to more familiar mythology (Incas), but still with the statues sub plot. The return of a character that just won't stay dead! Eddie's more vulnerable in this one. He's losing people he cares about, and there's a nasty nasty villain from his past (and not the risen from the dead one!). The whole ending (won't spoil it) was set up well to be believable, and I'm off to start the next one!!
And another Wilde/Chase story. Nice to see a different mythology being used - the Hindu pantheon doesn't have a lot written about it and I liked it. I've always liked the Ramayana, nand although Shiva is the main focus, I could see ideas i had read about. We definitely have a very interesting sub-plot (the statues), and I've realised that all these later books I've only read once before and i have completely forgotten the story! Excellent, and I can't wait for the next!.
Another rollicking book running from car chase to explosion etc. Thoroughly enjoyable, bringing in characters who will play a part in further adventures. Nina and Eddie are still "out in the cold" and Nina is not coping well. However, all is well at the end! Sub-plots and sub sub- plots galore - Andy McDermott is definitely thinking ahead now! Getting confident he has a winner on his hands!
A "children's book", lent to my by a Year 7 who said i had to read it. Very good - i think that NZ children would resonate with it, as although it's about the polio epidemic of 1937, they will see it through COVID eyes. Without that, I don't think the story - good though it was, would have struck a chord. Simply told, from a 10yr old's viewpoint, it was powerful and evocative. I enjoyed it.
Just to relax! An easy quick read in Heinlein's inimitable style.
Well! I actually have not read this one! I'm gobsmacked, but it does explain why I was a bit confused about some of the later books. Not sure I really believe that they'd just sack someone of Nina's prominence, but it sets it all up for interest later.. I'm really enjoying this!
Giving myself a break from the series I'm reading. I do like this Tower series, even though i did feel that with this one she's trying TOO hard to wrap up all the loose ends. A few inconsistencies, but an enjoyable read!
And the 3rd in the series bites the dust. I'd forgotten that these early ones in the series were not quite as polished! Nice to have some of the plot set in Bournemouth - I remember that balloon they're talking about! Still, a good romp was had by all, and good to see something more modern than Atlantis!
Book 2 of the series, and as good as I remember. There are 17 of them now, I think. Again, not sure real people would survive, but it's fun and a real change from some more serious books!!
Some scenes are implausible, but it's a real page turner. I have read it before, but not for years. I've decided to re-read the whole series before reading the new one I just picked up! I'm a very fast reader!!
