If you're only gonna ever read one book about gender theory, read this one. Beautifully written and compassionate.
Stupid and fun- well plotted
If you only read one book in 2024, make sure it is this one.

Couldn't finish. Kept wanting it to redeem itself because fundamentally it was an adventure story. However, moronic and in bad taste in today's political climate.
Bleak and depressing exploration of misogyny
Set in South Sudan 2002 at an NGO compound this story is fascinating, delicate, and brutal.
Too bleak for me. Not a good student of historical fiction.
Banks being Banks, some dodgy misogyny
Uncomfortable navigation of grief as it distorts time and space
Bosch being Bosch
Gentrification as colonisation
The talking animals were the best part
Terrifying exploration of teenage cruelty and violence.
The third book in a chaotic and brutally comic Parisien milieu.
Set in Haiti in 1992, Devil Makes Three explores the world's first Black Republic as constantly under attack from the West. Well written characters combined with a rollicking plot make this a deeply satisfying read. Kinda The Comedians meets Foucault meets The Bourne Identity meets Baron Samedi.
Didn't finish- read first narrative and was intrigued, but second narrative did not change pace enough for me.
Didn't finish. Bought a copy coz I fell for the publisher's banner, "Bestselling author of Bullet Train". Unless you are into plot less domestic misogyny avoid this book.
Somehow have missed this Australian author but randomly picked up his first book. Brutal and tight. Stories of banal terror.
Didn't finish, not my jam- but will be someone's. Set in outback Oz the story of a crim whose past is catching up with him.
rip roaring yarn for a wet day- protagonist a 14 year old self described outlaw
