  • Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow

    By Gabrielle Zevin

A love story and video games. I don’t play video games but knew enough from osmosis from my kids to really enjoy this one.

  • The Gone World

    By Tom Sweterlitsch

Good Sci-Fi - interesting premise and I liked the main character.

  • The Electric Kingdom

    By David Arnold

Great YA book about time travel and post apocalypse. Read in a day, it was nicely tied up at the end. Good read.

  • The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O.

By Neal Stephenson and Nicole Galland
    4 stars

Haven’t read Neal Stephenson for a while. This is more accessible but was fun and there’s a sequel I’ll be reading soon.

  • Heaven and Earth Grocery Store

    By James McBride

Excellent, loved it. Read it in almost one fell swoop on the beach.

Easy read, took me a day. Osscillated between three characters. Was a good read, not about to change my life, but I good quick read.

  • None of This is True

    By Lisa Jewell
    3 stars

Meh, I'm going to stop reading Lisa Jewell. Once you've read one of her books, you've read all of them. But read at least one.

  • Demon Copperhead

    By Barbara Kingsolver
    5 stars

Really good book with some heartbreaking and funny characters. Set in Appalachian mountains.

  • Dungeon Crawler Carl

    By Matt Dinniman
    3 stars

Effortless and fun and very very silly. I don;t play vidoe games but have absorbed enough by osmosis through my children, so the tropes, memes and side-eyes were easily to pick up. I liked it and could consider the next book if I want another escapist read.

  • Some Desperate Glory

    By Emily Tesh
    4 stars

Space opera which was actully really good. Had strong LGBTQi themes running through the book which was paralleled with the alien and 'who is actually your family' tropes.

  • Lessons in Chemistry

    By Bonnie Garmus
    5 stars

I read this in one sitting because it was fun, easy to read and a little predictable? But I didn't mind being lead to the conclusion, I liked the characters and really wanted a sweet little ending for them all at the end.

  • Then She Was Gone

    By Lisa Jewell
    3 stars

I read this on a tramp on Great Barrier Island. It's not diffcult but you kind of knew what was happening. Really good to read tucked up in my sleeping bag after a long walk.

  • Invincible

    By Robert Kirkman
    5 stars

I read all 3 compendiums in about one sitting. It was worth it, really enjoyed the trials and tribulations of the hero. Nicely all tied up at the end. Amazing graphics, read on my kindle in the garden. My son also has my kindle account and we read it at the same time which was fun.

  • The Kaiju Preservation Society

    By John Scalzi
    5 stars

A fun jaunt through sci-fi, internet memes and is just really silly. Easy to read, snarky and very funny.

  • Old Babes in the Wood: Stories

    By Margaret Atwood
    4 stars

I nice little collection of short stories from Margaret Atwood. Lovely fresh writing with some sentences I had to reread just because they were so good. My Evil Mother was the best one.

  • The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

    By Stuart Turton
    5 stars

A time travelling whodunnit set in the 30s in England. You'll have to keep up of all the characters but the ending is totally worth it. I really enjoyed reading the book.

  • Fairy Tale

    By Stephen King
    4 stars

Good book, not one of his best but an easy romp through fairy tales. Pitched more towards younger readers but I needed some fluff end at the end of term!
