This book is amazing. I think the author is terric. The underbelly of Australian street life in all its shocking glory. Such likeable and awful characters.

  • Elephants on acid and other bizarre experiments

Loved this! Science kinda mad. Things they would never get away with doing these days. Or do they??Got a crazy idea? Let's see if we can experiment on some animals or dead bodies or do random pyschological experiments on strangers and find out....

  • Thieves Gambit

More a 3.5 star read. I enjoyed the storyline, as it was quite original - a 17 yr old career criminal in the family business of intricate heists, competing in an elite career criminal competition to find the best all-round criminal. Problem solving, fighting, deception, pickpocketing, expert knowledge of technology, fending off the tactics of the other contenders to knock competitors off or out - didn't seem to matter which of those options was end result. My only bone to pick was the tiresome romance element. I get why it was part of driving the story forward, but boy I got sick of her mooning over him!!

  • The Sparrow

    By Tessa Duder

As a Historical Fiction book for YA I think it was rather good. I learnt a bit about the Australian prison system where English convicts were sent to , about the sea voyage to NZ and what life was like for a woman or girl here in this time period. It was sympathetically written about tangata whenua, so felt modern at the same time. Primarily a character driven story rather than high action, but I still found it interesting

  • Weirdo

    By Sara Pascoe
    4 stars

If you enjoy Sara Pascoe, standup comedian, and her outloud train of thought humour, then you will enjoy this book. It kind of feels like an extension of that. This is a relationship/family drama told as a black comedy. Reasonably explicit in parts but an entertaining read.
