It took me quite a while to warm to this story, but it grew on me.

  • Nine Girls

    By Stacy Gregg
    5 stars

A fascinating sort of autography from a prolific author of younger readers. The empathetic description of the main character's friend's leukemia journey is the highlight of the book for me.

  • The Chocolate Maker's Wife

    By Karen Brooks
    5 stars

A brilliant book about the life and times of London in 1663 to 1666. So many fascinating insights in the introducing of chocolate to the English. The plot weaves seamlessly through the historical events of the plague outbreak and the devastating fire in London. Characters are so real life you feel you know them intimately now.

  • A secret garden in Paris

    By Sophie Beaumont
    5 stars

A most enjoyable book. Each of the characters are well rounded and relatable. The information about the gardens of Paris makes me want to go there and explore them A really uplifting story with interesting twists and turns. The colours and significance of different flowers made me look at them anew with even more appreciation of their beauty and fragrance and how they make people feel. I would love to have my garden resemblie any of the ones in the book :)

  • Migration

    By Steph Matuku
    5 stars

A fascinatiing futuristic adventure story. The Maori words and concepts weaved into the plot feel authentic. The story kept me entertained and I marvelled at the imagined world of learning and fighting. The end is as unusual as the beginning. I found it really worthwhile and would recommend it to any students.
