An emotional, raw story of a man in mourning struggling to live with loneliness and a painful family history. But the story has plenty of beauty too, showing the balance of human connection to bring light into a dark world.
Starts off as a relatable story of two young brothers with very different personalities, an absent father, and a kind but odd grandfather, connected to the spiritual world, who is wiser than first thought. As Charlie and his brother discover a mystical creature, they start to experience the Maori spiritual world. A little hard to follow at times with all the Maori gods and their back stories, as it flicks between reality and the mystical.
