  • The Language of Flowers

    By Vanessa Diffenbaugh
    4 stars

I found this a lovely book to read, offering insight into the foster-care system and how people from damaged backgrounds can be healed through connections with both nature and humanity. The Victorian language of flowers was used to convey feelings. For the main character in the book, she realises she has a gift for not only healing herself, but also helping others through the flowers she chooses for them.

  • After the Tampa

    By Abbas Nazari
    4 stars

A great read. The autobiography of a refugee from Afghanistan, who lived through escaping the Taliban, being rescued at sea by the Tampa, arriving in Australian waters and being refused entry, being sent to Nauru and eventually building a new life in NZ. It is an easy read, but a powerful and inspiring story.

Love this book! It is full of little anecdotes, short stories and simple sentences, which perfectly capture humankind. It is the perfect book to dip into for a daily dose of love, kindness and wisdom.

  • It Ends With Us

A story about the choices that women in abusive relationships have to make. An interesting topic, based on personal experience of the author, but I didn't find it very well-written.
