  • The London Seance Society

I really enjoyed The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner so thought I'd give this one a go. It is quite enjoyable - a murder mystery set in London in the 1870s with a bit of spiritualism thrown in. Love that women are the lead characters. It is not fancy literature but it is good fun - definitely recommended for teenagers.

  • When We Were Orphans

    By Kazuo Ishiguro
    3 stars

In "When We Were Orphans" by Kazuo Ishiguro, the intriguing premise weaves a captivating narrative that skillfully paints a vivid picture of the time in Shanghai for the international settlement and then again at the time of the war with Japan. However, I found the pace a bit slow and found it hard to prioritise reading it - I didn't feel excited to get back into it each day. Despite this, the novel's unique premise and historical backdrop make it a worthwhile once I start reading and entice me to keep going.
