As I hadn't heard of the author before, this was unexpectedly good. It was an insight into the war in Sri Lanka, the terror of living through it through the lens of immigrant people in Australia. It looked also at the racism faced by these Sri Lankan people and the resilience and the heartbreak of their experience both from the past and present. Told beautifully through the eyes of people of all ages.
Loved this memoir. Creative, strong and determined. The author was raised in London by a white Catholic mother and a Nigerian immigrant father.

This is an incredible book with relatable, engaging characters. It looks at gender identity, race, feminism and generations of women whose stories interlink. Deeply moving.
