Still being punished examines the lives kaumātua and kuia, and why many of them do not speak Māori. There are a number of personal accounts from older Māori about their experiences growing up in the school system and being punished for using their language. the book discussed the phycological effects of their treatment. The author states that the title "still being punished" is to reflect the way the younger generations judge their elders for not being able to speak Māori, without acknowledging the trauma the use of Te reo Māori brings their elders. this book can be found at Huia.co.nz
Ash is Cinderella reimagined with a mysterious fairy and a powerful Huntress. All in a world where being queer is openly accepted. While technically a WLW romance, Ash deals more with grief and finding the strength to stand up for yourself and what you want. It was refreshing to read an LGBTQ+ novel where the challenges the main character faced had nothing to do with their sexuality or homophobia, but instead were the types of challenges anyone could relate to.
