  • The Orchardist's Daughter

    By Karen Viggers
    4 stars

Enjoyed this. Somewhat grim rather than uplifting. Set in the Tasmanian logging world. It's definitely about the resilience of downtrodden women with a few positive male characters thrown in to offset the predominantly negative males in the women's lives. Interesting information about various native animals too.

  • The Diamond Hunter

    By Fiona McIntosh

Great read - historical fiction. 1870's onwards South African Kimberly diamond mine world to Northern England. A mission to find out the truth about her family.

  • Bye bye baby

A DCI Jack Hawksworth crime novel set in England. Great story line with added intrigue of 'nearly, but not quite' romance with co-worker. Plot twists and victim connections clever but not overdone. Main character is someone you can connect with and faces real pressures, the book is not just all about the crimes. Not overly graphic crime scenes either.

  • The Briar Club

    By Kate Quinn
    5 stars

Kate Quinn does it again! Love her books and love learning about women in different periods of history. This one is set in USA (don't let that put you off), post WWII with interesting impacts of McCarthy-ism scaremongering. But dominant themes of women's friendships and courage in adversity.
