I really enjoyed Versions of a Girl, especially the way it follows two parallel stories of Fern growing up with her mother in one version and her father in the other. It was fascinating to see how her life unfolded so differently in each path, yet certain aspects remained the same. The book made me think about how small choices and circumstances shape who we become.
I've just read Shantaram for the second time and still really enjoyed it. The book pulls you in with its storytelling, characters, and the way it brings Mumbai to life. It’s a mix of adventure, philosophy, and human emotion, making you feel like you’re right there with Lin as he navigates the world around him.
The book shows the struggles of protecting culture and family while facing tough challenges. Niko’s courage and determination are inspiring, and the story is filled with important lessons about belonging and standing strong. With simple and heartfelt writing, The Pōrangi Boy is a great read for anyone who loves stories about bravery and protecting what matters.
Whiti Hereaka’s Bugs is a powerful coming-of-age story set in small-town Taupō. It follows Bugs and her friend Jez as they navigate the challenges of growing up poor in New Zealand, grappling with family struggles, friendship tensions, and the search for identity. Bugs is a must-read for those seeking an evocative and genuine depiction of youth in Aotearoa.
Another great novel from the Private series.
The 5th book in the Jack Morgan series. Set mainly in Berlin this book has lots of twists that keep you guessing. Was hard to put the book down!
