    5 stars

  • The Mind's Eye

    By Oliver Sacks
    3 stars

Follows case studies of patients and friends of Oliver Sacks in relation to perceptual difference. Examples include individuals who no longer can see colour, recognise their surroundings or see in 3D and yet their visual sight is not affected. An interesting read, especially as Oliver Sacks details the beginnings of his own perceptual challenges and fight with cancer. An insight into both the doctor, patient and the doctor who becomes a patient too.

  • Phoenix Zones

    By Hope Ferdowsian
    4 stars

Phoenix zones are environments that foster healing, growth and transformation of one's trauma into strength. The author discusses several cases and extracts commonalities in the hopes that these notions can be used to construct future Phoenix zones. Part of discussion centres on animal treatment as a measure of empathy and argues that we too are animals. Interwoven throughout are psychological theories that empirically centres the narrative.
