A good teenage romantic novel. A bit predictable but still a solid storyline.

  • Traditional Maori Legends - Ngā Tai Kōrero

    By Warren Pohatu
    4 stars

Short versions of māori purakau, this book shows insight into multiple stories at once. A good read for those wanting to learn pūrakau and be given the basics around it.

A memoir about an All Black from Upper Hutt.. Cory Jane is truly a great story teller who has some wicked inside about the greatest All Blacks team of all time!

  • Matariki The Star of The Year

    By Rangi Matamua
    4 stars

A good read about what Matariki is and how maori observed such times. Talks about tradition and modern, and the maramataka which I have become increasingly interested in.

  • Once were warriors

    By Alan duff

An extremely hard read that took way longer than expected. Emotional and somewhat triggering.

  • The Whale Rider

    By Witi Ihimaera

A novel that allows me to yearn for my home. I’m lucky enough this time around to read this while I was home on holiday. I feel I haven’t ever completely understood it before, but now I understand it more than ever. An incredible book about allowing someone to fulfil their true self and how the people will suffer when this isn’t allowed to happen.

  • Hīkoi

    By Aroha Harris
    4 stars

A non-fiction book about the protests Māori have faced over the years. A fantastic read, especially in our current political climate. Allows me to feel that we have been through what we are currently going through before, and my tipuna fought the hard fight that we will soon come up against.

  • The Almost Moon

    By Alice Sebold
    5 stars

What a twisted book! One where the opening line is better than anything else I’ve ever read. Without spoiling, Alice will have you on your toes with this one.
