Not my normal read. Easy light entertaining read without a lot of substance. The story centred on a number of characters, guests at the he Hotel Louis XVI in Paris and how their lives became intertwined, with a "everything turns out wonderful" ending!
After visiting Janet Frames house, (which is a short walk from home), I was inspired to read Janet Frames' autobiography. I loved the honest open account of Janet's life and her ability to share her childhood memories, made all the more real, as I'm surrounded by some places she speaks of, including the zig zag stairs to the top of the hill in Eden Street. I can almost envisage Janet running down the hill :)
An interesting insight into life in Kenya and the enormous contrast between cultures, as written and experienced by swiss born author Corinne Hofmann, who married and lived with a Masai Warrior. I felt that Corinne was somewhat naïve in believing she could transform her life from living as a dressmaker in Switzerland to a life in the outback of Kenya with a husband warrior who had little understanding of her beliefs and cultures. Definitely an interesting story.
