Witi Ihimaera is my favourite author and read this to my kids this summer. It is a beautiful story about a young girl, Kahu, who dreams of leading her people, even though only boys are chosen. Full of adventure, culture, and strong messages about bravery and believing in yourself, it’s an inspiring read for kids. Perfect for teaching lessons about family, tradition, and following your dreams!
This is a helpful read for anyone working with young people. It mixes science with practical advice, giving you easy-to-follow tips on how to keep them motivated and engaged. Whether you’re a teacher, parent, or mentor, this book offers great strategies. A solid choice if you want to better understand what drives the younger generation!
Very cleverly written and immersed in NZ history, drama and a bit of astrology if you are into that . Set in 1860s during the gold rush. It took me a while to get through, but the characters and plot make it worth it.
Beautifully written and is a moving celebration of whakapapa. Patricia Grace is so poetic and captures the the connection between land and people in a powerful way. Recommended to anyone in Aotearoa wanting a deeper understanding of this history.
Loved it! I really enjoyed how it dives into themes like resilience and the beauty of nature. Kya’s journey is both heartbreaking and inspiring, and it really gets you thinking about how we treat people who are different. Great pick for anyone who loves a story with heart and depth!
