  • Peking Duck and Cover

    By Vivien Chien
    4 stars

This one kept me guessing until the end.

  • Pillow Talk

    By Stephanie Cooke
    4 stars

    Love the body positive story!

  • West Heart Kill

    By Dann McDorman
    1 stars

I didn't like this book at all. It felt more like a lecture on the art form of writing a murder mystery. The ending was frustrating and it didn't come to a satisfying conclusion.

  • The Tenth Circle

    By Jodi Picoult
    3 stars

Slow paced. I liked the Dante's Inferno theme that was woven throughout.

  • The Last Devil to Die

    By Richard Osman
    5 stars

Love these characters. I had so much fun reading this book.

  • Bride

    By Ali Hazelwood
    5 stars

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Fast paced. Wolves, vampires, good recipe for a mystery and a desire filled story with likable characters that you're hoping get together.

  • The Bone Hacker

    By Kathy Reichs
    3 stars

This one introduced a new location and new characters for Tempe to work with. It's downfall was the lack of emotional attachment the story invoked due to the temporary nature of said characters.

  • Cult

By Camilla Lackberg and Henrik Fexeus
    4 stars

The main story was great. I like all of characters. However I felt there were too many character threads amongst the main arc to follow. I would like to learn more about each of the team, but not all in one book. It made for a really long read and slowed the pace down.

  • Return of the Jedi: From a Certain Point of View

    By Lucas Film

  • The Book of Elsewhere

By Keanu Reeves and China Mieville
    2 stars

Well written, just not the book for me. Very slow pace.

  • Mirrors of Greatness: Churchill and the Leaders Who Shaped Him

    By David Reynolds
    3 stars

An interesting read. I learnt about some facts that I wasn't aware of, especially around Stalin and Gandhi.

  • The Monster in the Box

    By Ruth Rendell
    2 stars

This dragged for me and the ending was not satisfying enough.

  • Arch-conspirator

    By Veronica Roth
    2 stars

This felt like it was trying to pack in too much in this short novella. The story would've worked better with just Antigone's perspective. It needed to be a full novel to make time for each narrator.

  • Pet

    By Catherine Chidgey
    4 stars

I enjoyed this book. A well told tale. However a little predictable.

  • The Magician's Daughter

    By H.G. Parry
    3 stars

The story was well thought out and good. But it lacked a bit of pace that would've given it the suspense that it was on the precipice of.

  • Spectacular

    By Stephanie Garber
    1 stars

I didn't find this romantic at all. It was very cringe.

  • The Widow's Husband's Secret Lie

    By Freida McFadden
    5 stars

At times this thriller is absolutely absurd. McFadden manages to fit every trope you can think of into this little novella. The ridiculousness will make you smile throughout the read. This is not meant to be taken seriously and that's what makes it so much fun.

  • When Among Crows

    By Veronica Roth
    2 stars

I didn't get it. It didn't really draw me in and because of that, I didn't enjoy it or feel anything for the characters.

  • Before You Knew My Name

    By Jacqueline Bublitz
    2 stars

    A bit grim.

  • The Axeman's Carnival

    By Catherine Chidgey
    5 stars

The use of Tama the Magpie as narrator was brilliant. This had me interested straight away, it gave an original quirky but informative perspective. The genius of it was felt more profoundly in those moments of domestic abuse. It gave a chilling insite to what a child would feel during this experience. I would highly recommend this book. Though it does have some themes that can be hard to read, Chidgey manages the topic with realism and empathy. It does have a lot of swearing. The R rated language isn't for everyone, but if you don't mind profanity, you will find these bits light hearted and amusing.

  • Empire Strikes Back: From a Certain Point of View

    By Lucas Film
    4 stars

Again, this perfectly fits between the scenes of the movie like out takes. It gives you more storyline of the bounty hunters and a huge focus on Cloud City.

  • The Scholar and the Last Faerie Door

    By H.G. Parry
    5 stars

This was so well written. It felt full and complex without being bogged down by the detail. The story was easy to imagine and I felt truly swept away. Though fantasy and full of magic, it still felt plausible. I'm so glad it was good. It was written by a friend and colleagues Sister and I'll be able to report back how much I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading more of Hannah's work. Yay!

  • Hell's Bells

    By Jill Johnson
    4 stars

Professor Rose is an interesting character. Each case is thought out carefully and ties in the use of toxicology of plants. I find this fascinating. Johnson has an easy flow to her writing that gives ease to the academic portions of her story.

  • Kaleidoscopes in the Dark

    By B.G. Rogers
    3 stars

    This anthology was clever.

  • Cat + Gamer Volume 6

    By Wataru Nadatani
    4 stars

So sweet. This is a great series to make you smile.

  • The Bookshop Detectives: Dead Girl Gone

    By Gareth and Louise Ward
    4 stars

This was a fun read. The Mystery and the characters were good. It had a very snappy conversational narration. I especially enjoyed all the book references.

  • Teen Titans: Starfire

    By Kami Garcia
    4 stars

This was a nice introduction to the character Kori. A nice flow and you instantly like Kori. I'm looking forward to seeing how her story progresses.

  • A Stroke of the Pen: The Lost Stories

    By Terry Pratchett
    4 stars

These were fun. A child like whimsy, but with enough satire to make it a book of fairytales for adults.

  • Waiting for the Miracle

    By Anna McPartlin
    4 stars

I love Anna McPartlin. She has the ability to make sob your out heart out and whilst in the midst of your tears, burst out laughing. This one was about the past and it's abusive way of solving "the problem" of unwed mothers in Ireland, and the present, a support group of women who are having trouble conceiving. Beautifully touching.

  • Butter

    By Ayako Yuzuki
    1 stars

I thought this was a mystery/thriller, but it was a story of self discovery. It was a very slow paced read and I found the descriptive detail a slog to read through, eg. 6 pages on preparing a turkey. Not a book I would recommend.

  • We Solve Murders

    By Richard Osman
    5 stars

I really enjoyed the Thursday murder club series and this new series of Osman's is as wonderful. He writes such endearing characters, it is hard not to love them and want to follow them. Can't wait for the next one.

  • Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View

    By Lucas Film
    4 stars

Each story placed itself between scenes seamlessly from Episode IV A New Hope. I found myself easily visualizing them as deleted scenes from the movie. Very cool.

  • The Boyfriend

    By Freida McFadden
    4 stars

Interesting characters and as always the perfect twist that just got me in the end. And after I was so sure of myself about who the serial killer was.
